Chaplain Jeanne

Talked with a most interesting patient. She was from a talented family. Her father was a radio preacher, and had his own show. Someone else took over the show eventually. The patient's sister is a pianist, and teaches the keyboard - loving it. The patient has done some singing herself.

Met a patient who told me that he had been near death five (5) times now. He felt God must have something for him. He did not indicate how he was serving God in any capacity. I asked him if was he serving God. He said he was. He felt he needed to listen to God. I would think so being near death five times.

Visited a patient who expressed great interest and faith in God. Shared how he was reading Psalm 22 which really seemed to be speaking to his heart. He asked the Lord to show him what he needed to hear. God spoke to him and said these words, "You have touched the heart of God by the blood of the covenant." He said he did not know of those words in the Bible. He told me that God wanted us to be humble and that we went through suffering to make us humble. I had just been thinking along the same thoughts before going into his room that same morning - interesting! I have personally been going through some difficult sufferings, but God has given me peace and I began thinking how it makes you humble when he told me this. I decided that I would go home and read Psalm 22 to see for myself what he read.

When I went to the Retirement center, I shared with the people how God had been teaching me some lessons and how He will help us to have inner joy and peace even when there are tribulations all around us. I talked with them about some significant people (women) in the bible and how they had weaknesses and strengths. It was a good lesson - getting a little long I felt so I shortened it a little.

One lady at the Retirement center today asked me to what church I belonged. She wanted to know the denomination, I believe. I told her Nazarene, and she shared what Nazarene church that she belonged to, and how she had not been there long at the retirement center. Her eyes filles with tears as she spoke about her church that she had attended so many years. I offered to take her to a service at her church when she said she could not drive there. She did not take me up on it, but may want to later - who knows. I have been to her church and absolutely LOVED the services on Sunday evenings. They warmed my heart in a special way that I needed.

Chaplain Jeanne

Visited a patient who did not respond to chaplain or either was difficult to understand. Daughter-in-law came in behind me, and said she was the Power of Attorney and to pray for him. I had prayer. She shared how he had been doing so well and after the surgery was worse with infections and all. He had been sitting and talking and do better before. The doctor wanted to do another surgery and she was not going to allow it. She felt her father was too old to have to go through all that at his age. She wanted him to just have peace. She had been concerned about him begin born again, so she talked to him about it not too long ago and he said "yes" he was fine. She said she just had to leave it in God's hands and trust him that he was. She expressed that she did not get along very well with her sister, and had to turn her sister over to God and she found peace about it. She did get emotionally with tears in her eyes as she was sharing about her problems to the chaplain. I really felt with her through her journey she was sharing. She wanted Chaplain to visit and prayer with her dad any time.

I ran into a lady in the hospital today who absolutely loves her church. She attends a large church in Centerville and works as a volunteer several hours on Sunday. She loves it. She said at one time she was a Catholic, but it did not meet the needs in her heart. She was so happy now and felt greater help spiritually since she was invited to attend this new church a while back. She invited me to come a couple times and I told her we will see. I had visited her church in the past 1-2 times and told her about that. I remembered that they sang the song "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus". She said she loves "Amazing Grace". We had a very long conversation about church and her own spiritual life. It was a good visit and she was glad to talk with me.

Met another daughter-in-law who did not know if her mother-in-law was a Christian. She expressed that she had never see her pray. She herself was a Catholic. The patient did not seem to want me to pray with them, so I offered a Scripture card to the guest who began reading it to the patient. I left.

Had a call for a patient in ICU who had a family waiting. The patient seemed to have no lower parts to his body. I met the family in the waiting room, but was too polite to ask what had happened to bring him to this condition. She shared his recent problem. They had two children who were in the waiting room as well watching TV (the one girl was). The mother really appreciated that there was someone she could talk to if needed. I sat with her awhile and then gave her a Scripture card to read for encouragement later conveying to her we are here anytime if needed.

A patient coded (died) and the family was quite upset, She was only 51 years old. (So young). They were very upset as she had allowed her life insurance policy to expire about a month before she got sick. She had several heart attacks and a massive one which they think took her life. The staff did what they could for her. The family had no money as the daughter is on disability. I referred them to Social Services who was not much help other than to give them a number to see what they could do. The daughter want her cremated, but had no money to do it. I offered my pastoral services for the funeral if they should need help, and gave them my personal telephone numbers. We will see what happens.

Met an interesting patient who said she was a Nazarene Song Evangelists, yet did not have the power to sing at this time. Her health had declined. She said she attended Treveca College and Mt Olivet. She has her masters degree and said she wanted to be a chaplain, I recommended to her the volunteer office and our chaplain director. Her family was there with her the guest shared she attended a Nazarene church in the area (will mention not name here).

Met a man today who lost his leg. He said God answered his prayers in taking away his pain. He shared that he wanted to get to church so bad. I suggested he pray that God will grant his request. He shared how God had revealed hell to him. He seemed to have a good trust and faith in God. I left him some reading material, and had prayer with him. He seemed to really have a desire to talk with the Chaplain.
