Visited a patient who did not respond to chaplain or either was difficult to understand. Daughter-in-law came in behind me, and said she was the Power of Attorney and to pray for him. I had prayer. She shared how he had been doing so well and after the surgery was worse with infections and all. He had been sitting and talking and do better before. The doctor wanted to do another surgery and she was not going to allow it. She felt her father was too old to have to go through all that at his age. She wanted him to just have peace. She had been concerned about him begin born again, so she talked to him about it not too long ago and he said "yes" he was fine. She said she just had to leave it in God's hands and trust him that he was. She expressed that she did not get along very well with her sister, and had to turn her sister over to God and she found peace about it. She did get emotionally with tears in her eyes as she was sharing about her problems to the chaplain. I really felt with her through her journey she was sharing. She wanted Chaplain to visit and prayer with her dad any time.
I ran into a lady in the hospital today who absolutely loves her church. She attends a large church in Centerville and works as a volunteer several hours on Sunday. She loves it. She said at one time she was a Catholic, but it did not meet the needs in her heart. She was so happy now and felt greater help spiritually since she was invited to attend this new church a while back. She invited me to come a couple times and I told her we will see. I had visited her church in the past 1-2 times and told her about that. I remembered that they sang the song "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus". She said she loves "Amazing Grace". We had a very long conversation about church and her own spiritual life. It was a good visit and she was glad to talk with me.
Met another daughter-in-law who did not know if her mother-in-law was a Christian. She expressed that she had never see her pray. She herself was a Catholic. The patient did not seem to want me to pray with them, so I offered a Scripture card to the guest who began reading it to the patient. I left.
